07/01/2008 -Wireless Coverage Continues to Expand

Students who left campus for the Summer will return in August to find a lot more of the campus has wireless coverage than when they left. ComTech has recently completed several projects across the campus. New areas covered include:

  1. Jordan Hall
  2. Withers Hall
  3. Mann Hall
  4. Riddick Labs
  5. Fountain Dining (and nearby outdoor areas)
  6. Biltmore Hall
  7. Robertson Labs
  8. Pulp and Paper Labs
  9. Hodges Labs
  10. Poe Hall
  11. Leazar Hall
  12. Court of North Carolina and Mary Yabrough Court
  13. First Year College Commons
  14. Williams Hall

07/01/2008 - ComTech Piloting IPTV

ComTech is trying a new exciting technology called IPTV. It is a cutting edge technology that uses the existing campus Data Network to distribute Cable TV and other video content.

For now, the pilot is limited to 20 Academic/Administrative Buildings. The purpose of the pilot is to test the viability of the service, both from a Technology and from a user experience standpoint.

The Channels currently in the pilot are:

  1. WolfBytes
  2. WRAL News Channel
  3. News 14
  4. UNC-NC
  5. Fox News
  6. History Int'l
  7. Animal Plannet
  8. NCSU PlayBack Channel
  9. CNN

Information gathered in the pilot will be used to determine technologies and services that maybe offered campus-wide in the future. See CATV/Video System Projects

Provost Nielsen and Vice Chancellor Leffler have announced their Campus Calendaring and Email Decision.

11/10/2007 - ComTech is now under the Office of Information Technology

Begining November 1st, 2007, units of ITD and RMIS have merged to form the Office of Information Technology (OIT).

Administrative and academic IT services to campus will continue without disruption throughout the transition.
