Types of Telephone Lines and Sets

Analog Line -- This line type is used with the following single line phone sets, fax machines, PC modems, terminals for the deaf, fire alarm, and other emergency lines.

Digital Line -- This line type is with multi-line telephones most commonly used in departmental answering positions, high call volume areas, and other locations.

Telephone Line Features

Analog -- Standard features that come with an analog line.

Feature Description
Call Forwarding Allows you to forward all calls to any telephone number on-campus or off-campus.

To Activate: Listen for dial tone- dial 10# - listen for special tone - dial the target number - wait for confirmation tone-hang up.

To Cancel: Listen for dial tone- dial 11# - listen for confirmation tone - hang up.

Call Pick Up: Allows you to pick up a call within a group of members. Available upon request. Press 18# to answer the call. Not available unless work request is submitted.

Note: While your phone is forwarding you may receive a splash ring as a reminder that the feature is activated.

Conf/3-Way Calling (Three way calling/consultation/transfer) Allows a telephone user to add another call to an existing conversation. Also allows you to hold an existing call to consult with another called party and then return to the original conversation. May transfer an existing call to another individual or telephone number.
Last Number Redial Allow the user to redial or call the last number dialed.
Speed Call Short Allows you to program and call a list of 10 frequently called telephone numbers by using * and a 1 digit code instead of having to dial the complete number.
Call Hold Allows a caller to be placed on hold temporarily.
Call Park Allows you to place a call in a special hold state. The call may then be retrieved from any NC State telephone number.

Additional features that are offered

Feature Description
Call Pick Up Allows you to answer other telephones that are in the same call pick up group.
Conference Allows you to place conference calls with up to 30 people.
Call Forward Busy Allows callers on a busy telephone number be automatically forwarded to another campus telephone number or voice mail.
Call Forward Don't Answer Allows automatic routing of incoming calls not answered within the specified number of rings to be forwarded to another campus telephone number or voice mail.
Call Forward Don't Answer Variable Timing Allows a call to be forwarded on a don't answer within a predetermined number of rings. The predetermined rings can be from 2 rings to 10 rings.
Speed Call Long Allows you to program and call a list of 30, 50, or 70 frequently called telephone numbers by using * and a 2 digit code instead of having to dial the complete telphone number.
Busy Lamp Field (Can only be used with a Meridian) This will show you if a person is on their telephone and also allows easy transfer.
Auto Dial Allows you to program and call a frequently called number.
Intercom (Can only be used with a Meridian) Allows intercom capabilities within your office.

Authorization Codes

An authorization code is an eight digit code entered at the time a long distance call is placed from a campus telephone that is restricted. The authorization code identifies the appropriate account code to be charged and can be used from any 515 or 513 telephone number that has been restricted.

Calling Cards

  • Domestic - A domestic calling card is used for calls within the United States. The rate is $.11 per minute.
  • International - An international calling card is used for making international calls. Rates for these calls are based on mileage.

  • 800 Service is $.17 per minute.
  • An order must be sent to the Communication Technologies office to receive service.

Wireless LAN Networks

NC State public wireless LAN networks are designed, installed, and maintained by ComTech for use by NC State faculty, staff, and students who have vailid University computing accounts. ComTech installs Wireless Access Points on a time and material basis. Material pricing listed below is for estimating purposes only and is subject to change.
