Important Mailbox Information
- Maximum length of personal greeting is 60 seconds.
- Maxiumum length of a message left in your mailbox is 3 minutes.
- Maximum number of stored message is 30.
- Heard message are deleted automatically after 30 days.
- Unheard messages are deleted automatically after 30 days.
How do I change my password?
- Call the voice mail system at 512-6245.
- Enter your current password.
- Press 4, then 2, then 1, then 1 again.
- Enter your new password.
How do I re-record or change my name?
- Call the voice mail system at 512-6245.
- Enter your password.
- Press 4, then 3, then 3 again.
- Record the new name.
How do I re-record my greeting?
- Call the voice mail system at 512-6245.
- Enter your password.
- Press 4, then 3, then 1.
- Choose the standard greeting or the personalized greeting.
- Record your new greeting.
How do I record an extended absence greeting?
This is a greeting that plays instead of your personal greeting when you are going to be out for a long period of time.
- Call the voice mail system at 512-6245.
- Enter your password.
- Press 4, then 3, then 2.
- Record your greeting to play while you are out of the office.

Why is the message indicator stutter-tone off?
Notification may be off. To turn notification back on:
- Call the voice mail system at 512-6245.
- Enter your password.
- Press 4, then 1.
- Follow the prompts to turn notification on.
Why does the system tell me, "I'm sorry, that is not the correct password"?
- Password may have been entered wrong - try again.
- Check to see if the phone is on pulse rather than tone.
- If the phone is on tone, the mailbox needs to be reinitialized Call ComTech (5-7099).
Retrieving Messages
Using Your Phone in the Office:
When a message has been left for you, notification will be provided by an interrupted (stutter) dial tone which will be noticeable whenever the telephone receiver is lifted to make an outgoing call or by a message indicator light on your phone (this depends on what kind of phone you have).
To retrieve a message using your phone:
- Call the voice mail system at 512-6245.
- Enter your password.
- Press 1 twice for unheard messages.
- Messages may be skipped by depressing the # key.
To retrieve a message using using someone else's room phone:
- Call the voice mail system at 512-6245.
- Depress the * key when the system answers.
- Enter your mailbox number (this is your (7) digit telephone number, unless otherwise notified)..
- Enter your personal password. Follow the prompts to retrieve your messages.
To retrieve a message using off-campus phone:
- Call the voice mail system at 919-512-6245 being careful to dial the full telephone number if you are calling from a location that is long distance.
- Depress the # key when the system answers.
- Enter your mailbox number (this is your (7) digit telephone number, unless otherwise notified)..
- Enter your personal password. Follow the prompts to retrieve your messages.
Helpful Hints
- Press 3 twice to fast forward a message to the end.
- Press 1 twice to rewind to the beginning of the message.
- Press 5 to receive envelope information (date, time, and who sent the message).
