- Yes, as long as they follow all the rules for deploying private wireless networks on campus as defined by ComTech and ITD. See http://www.ncsu.edu/it/rulesregs/wireless/implementation-rules.html.
Should departments install Cisco APs for private wireless networks?
How does a department purchase a Cisco AP for a private wireless network?
- They should submit a work order to ComTech for a private network AP purchase via the On-Line order form located at http://comtech.ncsu.edu.
Can a department get help configuring its private Cisco AP?
- For assistance please contact the Network Operations Center at 513-9675 or via email at support@ncstate.net.
Who is responsible for troubleshooting/software upgrades/repair/replacement of Cisco APs installed in private wireless networks?
- It is the responsibility of the department purchasing the private AP to do troubleshooting and maintenance.
Does installation of a private wireless network AP require new telecom outlet installation (high/inaccessible) or can the AP be plugged into an existing telecom outlet?
- It is up to the department to decide if they would like to pay for a new telecom outlet.
Are locks required?
Can APs be installed in BDF/IDF's?
- No, ComTech does not allow non-ComTech supported equipment to be installed in Telecom closets.
